Can it be used with just water to be a humidifier?

Yes – The SmileyDaisy diffuser can be used as both an essential oil diffuser and humidifier. If you would like to use its aromatherapy effect, use 2-3 drops of essential oils per 100ML water. If you don’t put essential oils into the water tank, the unit can be used as a small humidifier.

Does this diffuser use heat to make the mist?

No, this diffuser does not use heat to make the mist/vapor. SmileyDaisy uses advanced ultrasonic vibration at approximately 2.4MHz to disperse the water and oils into the air. It utilizes electronic frequencies to cause a small disk under the surface of a liquid (usually water) to vibrate at a very fast rate. These ultrasonic vibrations break the essential oil into tiny micro particles, dispersing the oil in a fine mist. These tiny particles are more easily absorbed by the lungs for a greater therapeutic effect on the body, mind, and spirit. It depends solely on the air current already in the room to disperse the mist throughout the room. For those who desire only a small amount of oil to be diffused in a room, this type of diffuser not only works well but can be very beautiful as well.

For the Hibiscus model, how do you clean the liner of the top cover?

The Hibiscus model has a liner directly attached to the inside of the outer cover. To clean the liner, gently remove it and clean it the way you clean the water tank.

The surface of the outer cover of the Hibiscus model is too slippery to pull out, any tips?

All you need to do is put your index finger inside the mist hole and pull the outer cover up from the water tank.

Hibiscus diffuser auto-shuts off when there is still 60 – 80 ml of water left in the water reservoir. Will I waste too much essential oil?

Due to the oval shape and flat bed of the diffuser, when water reduces to a certain level (60 – 80 ml), the water cannot flow into the ultrasonic disc pocket, which causes the water bubbles come up, leading to the diffuser stopping. A water sensor lies right beneath the disc, so when no water is inside the disc pocket, it will shut the diffuser down for safety reasons.

For ultrasonic diffusers, most of the aroma will be dispersed within the first hour or two because of the density and volatile properties of the oils. A very little amount of oils stay in the water reservoir when the diffuser auto shuts off. If the water is still fairly fresh, adding more water into the reservoir and using it for the next time will be fine. Otherwise, it is better to dump out the remaining water and pour in fresh water for sanitary purposes.
