3 Important Things About Your Essential Oil Diffuser that You Need to Know

Using an essential oil diffuser is one of the most common ways, and also one of the easiest, of enjoying aromatherapy. This small device disperses essential oils by breaking them into tiny molecules. The oils then ride water particles through a mist that diffusers create. It is through this method that essential oils are distributed into the air, along with their wonderful therapeutic aroma.

However, unlike passive diffusion or using reed diffusers where little to no maintenance is required, an essential oil diffuser needs to be taken cared of well in order to reap the wonderful benefits of essential oil. If this is not done properly, your diffuser can end up damaged and totally broken. You wasted money and you won’t get to enjoy aromatherapy easily.

So, what is it about the essential oil diffuser that you need to keep in mind, especially when it comes to care and maintenance?

Things to Note about Essential Oil Diffusers

Since essential oil diffusers are quite easy to use, many assume they do not need regular maintenance. Simply washing the device with water once in a while is deemed acceptable. Unfortunately, what many do not know is that this practice can lead to devastating results to your aromatherapy diffuser.

Luckily, it can be preventable.

3 Things to Note about Your Diffuser

  1. Know the symptoms of a dirty diffuser. These include:
  • changes in the color of the water reservoir
  • does not release mist like before
  • makes too much noise

When these signs are observed, your diffuser needs a good cleaning.

  1. Follow the right procedure of cleaning a diffuser. Remember never to submerge it in water as it may ruin the motor and circuit board. Cleaning the diffuser after each use is recommended. Simply unplug it and remove the remaining water from the reservoir. Then remove oil residue and stains using a damp cloth. Reach every nook and cranny using a cotton swab with alcohol and completely dry the diffuser.
  2. Deep cleaning the diffuser should be done every 2 weeks or once a month. Do this by removing the remaining water and filling the reservoir halfway with clean tap water. Add 10 drops of white vinegar and let the diffuser run for 5 to 10 minutes. Remove the water and vinegar mixture and wipe the device with a clean damp cloth. Also, use a cotton swab with vinegar for hard to reach areas. Then dry it with a clean cloth.

Don’t let your diffuser function any less than it should. Clean and maintain it well so you reap the wonderful benefits that essential oils and aromatherapy have to offer.
