Aromatherapy for All Seasons

A number of people have already turned to aromatherapy as an alternative solution to their health and wellbeing.

What essential oil you choose to use actually depends on what particular season you are currently experiencing. But sometimes, we use essential oils according to their purpose, regardless of what climate or season we are in.

For this article, we focus on winter and the best essential oils we should use during this time. Winter runs any time from November through February. Some of the most complained health issues during this season would be dry skin, chills, dry air, chapped lips, stiffness of the joints, colds and flu, and sometimes depression due to winter blues.

Some good essential oils to use during the wintertime would be ylang ylang, myrtle and sweet orange to battle the depressive mood. Peppermint, scotch pine, eucalyptus, rosemary, and Siberian fir to ward off symptoms of flu and colds. For body aches and pain, nutmeg, ginger and clove are the best ones to use. To soften your dry skin, use sandalwood, rosewood, myrrh and frankincense. To deodorize, you could use lemon, hiba wood and grapefruit.

During the winter season, it is advised to take warm baths because they help lessen chills. Make sure you use essential oils that are moisturizing, warming and uplifting. Add a carrier oil to your desired essential oil before taking into your bath and make sure the water is lukewarm. 4-8 drops of the essential oil of your choice plus a carrier oil would be the recommended amount.

During the dry winter months, you should use body butters, body oils and balms. They serve as a moisturizer and nourishes skin as well as protect you from the cold winds. Cocoa butter and shea butter are very good skin emollients. For soothing parched skin, use carrot seeds, argan oil, coconut, and avocado oils.
