Fall is the Best Time to Practice Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy is the practice of utilizing essential oils for mental and physical wellbeing. If you suffer from fall allergies or start to feel an early cold coming on, it can be particularly beneficial and uplifting during the fall months and the upcoming winter season.

Here are a few remarkable oils to try that will bring you that fall feeling and will warm the new colder atmosphere:

Using oils that are warming in nature, such as clove, cinnamon, nutmeg and ginger, have the tendency to be helpful for those who have cold hands and feet.  By including one drop to your unscented moisturizer or oil, you will offer your hands and feet a great warming massage.  Add them to your diffuser  and bring those great fall smells into your home and office.

Citrus oils are known to help uplift your state of mind. Try aromas like bergamot, sweet orange and bitter orange. These can be helpful for combating those winter season blues. They can provide a fast pick-me-up to sluggish start of your day. Use these scents in your diffuser to help brighten your day.

To help with the symptoms of colds and clear stuffy noses, we recommend oils like peppermint, spearmint, wintergreen, and rosemary. You may already be using rosemary routinely (it’s the major scent found in Vicks Vapo-Rub). To make your own natural balm, try blending a thick emollient, such as shea butter, with a couple drops of rosemary and a mix of mint. Apply freely to your chest and under your nose, to help lessen coughs and clear the sinuses.  Also, rosemary added to a diffuser at night with a couple drops of Lavender can bring about a relaxing and easy breathing night.

With the Fall season upon us, the Fall Equinox marks the start of a period of modification with a time of ideal balance ; it’s not too hot, not too cold, and the days and nights are the same length. This quick minute of cosmic balance in between the seasons is a good time to cultivate a sense of healthy balance in our own lives. The busy winter season full of brief days and long nights will soon be upon us, threatening to toss everything out of line. Make the most of fall’s seasonal shift to utilize essential oils and aromatherapy in focusing positive energy, before the winter season sets in.
