Pain Killers vs Essential Oils: Who Should Win?

According to the American Academy of Pain Medicine, chronic pain is a very prevalent issue worldwide that affects over 1.5 billion people. Usually, a lot of people turn to over the counter or prescription medicines as an immediate and only solution for pain. But technically, conventional pharmaceuticals can trigger some side effects.

Several studies warn us that over the counter pain relievers can cause dmage to the liver, dizziness, headaches, problems in the stomach and risks of kidney and heart problems. In addition to this, prescription drugs can be the cause of constipation, hormonal imbalance, depression and a lot of unwanted side effects. These side effects trigger people to consider alternatives. A lot of us are thankful for essential oils; which are natural painkillers that can be used daily instead of prescription medicines.

In 2011, there was a study that discovered pain-killing properties in essential oils that affects the brain through entering the bloodstream and creating a pain-relieving effect in the central nervous system. Researchers explained further that essential oils are under a study and are used as alternatives to over the counter pain relievers. Essential oils are also under probation in being used as mainstream pain relievers in the future.

Studies have cited many applications in taking essential oils. Such as taking them orally, applying them on the skin, and by injection. A variety of application methods should be available over time, but some of these methods are still under study and might cause potential hazards depending to the kind of essential oil. When using essential oils on your skin, test them in a small area first to see if you have an allergic reaction.

Essential oils with analgesic or pain relieving properties are peppermint, lavender, chamomile, sweet marjoram, eucalyptus, thyme and rosemary. You can use them safely at home everytime you are having a headache or stomach cramps. You can add a few drops into your essential oil diffuser and inhale the scent to lessen the pain that you are feeling and to make you feel relaxed as well.

Essential oils are truly worth every penny you spend on them. If you are not really conscious about your health, you should start caring now. They say that wounds heal but pain is permanent. Would you rather suffer from pain or find an alternative solution?
